I LOVE sharing with brides and couples, my favorite wedding vendors in the industry.  Planning can be so OVERWHELMING when there are so many options to chose from and so many wonderful vendors!   So I want to share with you one of my favorite wedding venue’s in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  413 on Wacouta Event Center!  Owner Britty Glenn has been so sweet to answer a few questions for us so we can get to know her and her amazing venue better.  You can check out their website, and contact Britty with any questions below using her contact info listed at the end of the interview.  I also love one of her favorite reasons for booking the venue.  Amazing photo opportunities! 1. Can you give us a little background history lesson on how this venue came to be?

413 on Wacouta Event Center is the brainchild of Lynn McCullough! She and her husband, Bob owned the historic Gilbert Building at 413 Wacouta Street when they were planning their 2008 wedding. Unable to find the venue that felt right to them, they finished the lower level of the Gilbert Building to host their reception. They obviously did a PHENOMENAL job because word got out, Brides started wanting to rent the room and Lynn found herself in the wedding industry. She added the ceremony suite within a couple years and grew it to be a busy, well-run machine. In early 2013 she hired me to run the venue as her Director and the first step in getting to retirement status. The next step was selling the Gilbert Building which happened in Fall of 2013 and then she sold the venue to me on 1/1/14. It is a dream come true for both of us!


2. If you could describe your venue in a few sentences, how would you describe it?

The best words to describe the aesthetics of the venue are romantic, historic and intimate. The limestone walls, exposed ceiling beams and history to the building have a lot of charm. It is one of those venues that “does the talking for you” and requires minimal decoration.


3. What makes your venue unique?

We consider ourselves a little “under the radar” and we like it that way! Rarely do we have guests at 413 on Wacouta who have been to an event here in the past. It isn’t a “been there, done that” venue where everyone has seen it or knows someone who got married here. Guests are always surprised and in awe of the tucked-away, understated beauty of the Gilbert Building and the venue it holds inside.


4. How many guests can your venue hold?

We can seat 150 in our ceremony suite and up to 200 for a plated dinner. For cocktail-style receptions we can hold up to 225. We also do corporate events and Holiday parties!


5. What kind of other services do you offer at 413?

(a coordinator, coat check bridal space, ceremony and reception in one venue..etc) I am personally here as the Bride’s coordinator all day and night on wedding day. I take a lot of pride in knowing I am involved the entire day to make sure it is flawless, stress-free and everything goes according to plan. I am even involved with packing up decor at the end of the night. I don’t like to see Mom or the Bridesmaids hauling out boxes at midnight. It is a special day, they should be enjoying every last minute! We have a beautiful bridal suite and living room area for the Bridal Party. Lastly, we are connected to several hotels via the Saint Paul skyway system.


6. Can couples book as a package deal for both ceremony and reception or also just separately one or the other?

They are welcome to book both rooms or just one. We only book one event per day regardless, so they can feel free to use the building for as long as they would like!


7. Food. That is what is on all our minds. icon smile 413 on Wacouta interview Do you have an in house caterer or do you allow outside party catering?

We like OPTIONS here at 413 on Wacouta Event Center! Brides have 13 caterers to choose from and NO food/beverage minimums. There is a wide variety of styles and price points on our list. There are also several bar service options which keep prices competitive and Brides are able to stay on their budget! We do not have a cake cutting fee and dessert is welcome to come in through any licensed bakery of their choosing. We have recommendations on our website!


8. How many weddings do you do a year?

We have 40 weddings on the books for 2014 so far. We typically book every Saturday in the on-peak season (May-December) and a couple Fridays per month. We do the occasional Sunday wedding and corporate events in the Holiday season as well. We like to cap our number of events to around 6 per month so it doesn’t become the “been there, done that” venue I mentioned before.


9. What do you like best about hosting a wedding at your venue?

It only takes a couple minutes after Brides meet me to see I genuinely care about making their wedding day as perfect as possible. I take a lot of pride in having great communication with my potential and booked couples, sharing my expectations with vendors to make sure the day is flawless and making sure the entire day is stress-free for everyone involved. After working with couples for a year or more, I love seeing their plans come to life and being the one to execute the most important day of their life. I also absolutely love working with my industry friends every weekend. It takes a village to put on a wedding and I have made a lot of friends in my catering companies, DJs, Bakeries and other vendors.


10. Anything else you want to tell us about your venue and why its a great place to book for a wedding?

One of the huge perks of hosting your special day at 413 on Wacouta is the photo opportunities! We are a 1/2 block away from the beautiful Mears Park. We have a cool, urban alley next to our building with exposed brick. Plus, the Bride & Groom can take rooftop photos which captures the beautiful Saint Paul skyline and Capitol! Having these photo locations nearby means you can save time and money by staying put in the area and relax in the living room of the venue during downtime. The day flies by quickly, do everything you can do slow down and enjoy it!
