Interview with event stylist-events by design

If you are anything like me, there are so many ideas circulating in your head when you are trying to pull together a theme for something. You know what you want but you just cant seem to put all those amazing Pinterest wedding ideas into a complete picture.  That rings true for the perfect wedding day you had envisioned doesn’t it?  Just like I have learned to delegate out certain tasks and areas of my business to better my business as a whole, it rings true for your wedding day as well!   Leave it to the specialists to design the perfect wedding you have always hoped for!

I had the chance to interview this dynamic duo who have taken wedding style and design to a whole new level! I’ll let them do the talking.  But I assure you, it didn’t take much convincing for me to realize what an asset it would have been having a stylist for my wedding day!

*Please introduce yourself.

We are Elise and Jodi, co-owners of Events and Interiors by Design.  We are a design firm of Interior Designers that also produce and style amazing events.

*What made you want to be a wedding stylist?

We are both Interior Designers that have fallen in love with event styling.  It makes us just down right giddy to use our knowledge of Interior Design when it comes to weddings and other events, turning a simple room into a spectacular space from top to bottom.  We focus on the space as a whole experience rather than simply setting a centerpiece on a table. Vertical space is one thing that is often times over looked, but used correctly makes a BIG impact.

*What kind of services do you offer?

We offer our design services for all sorts of events.  The bulk of our past events have been weddings, however we have also done a jewelry store grand opening, Galas of all kind, baby showers, the Fireman’s State Convention dinner/dance and list goes on.  Not to forget Interior Design, our latest projects have included a country club, restaurant and private residences.

As event stylists, we focus on the decor.  We are not planners, so we will not be meeting with the pastor or scheduling the timing of your ceremony.  However, we would be happy to join you for cake tasting appointments!

*Why should a couple use an event stylist as apposed to just decorating
it themselves?

“Events & Interiors by Design strives for unique designs in both their events and their interiors…with extreme attention to detail, the client’s vision comes to life.”

Decorating takes a lot of manual labor time!  Brides do not have time to light candles and set place cards on the day of their wedding, so they certainly don’t have time to decorate an entire ballroom or tent.  The day of your wedding you should be focused on you, your fiancé and your family, not running around decorating with your dress half on and curlers in your hair.  We take care of everything.  We start with a concept and develop that concept into a style for your wedding that is carried through to every detail. Not only do we conceptualize and execute the decor, we bring your vision to life while you focus on getting married.

*Describe the most challenging wedding you planned and how you handled
the problems that came up.

Three words…Tent. Wedding.  Rain.  Tent weddings are an animal all their own.  It’s kind of like camping.  You need to bring your own electricity, water, no real bathroom and you are opening yourself up to the elements.  We had a tent wedding that started off with beautiful weather and turned into heavy rain.  Luckily the rain held off until the reception had started and everyone was already under the tent. The outdoor candles were not so lucky, we returned to wedding to re-light and dry out candles so they were back to their original splendor.

*How would you rate your problem-solving skills?

We are fantastic at thinking on the fly.

*How would you rate your communication skills?

We are distracted by shiny things and we rarely speak in complete sentences. HA!

*How many full-scale weddings have you planned? When was your last one?

Our last Wedding was September 13th.  Our last event was Sept. 27th.

*How many wedding clients do you take on in a year?

We try to keep it to one bride per month.  One wedding a month allows us to devote our undivided attention, creativity and attention to detail that all our brides deserve.

*Do you have any tips for brides planning their wedding?

Be specific with your rsvps when it comes to plated dinners and assigned seating.  We have seen disasters of rsvps come in with meal counts but no way of knowing which guest belongs to which meal choice.

*What is the first thing a couple should take care of as far as what to
do on the planning list?

Guest List and Dress!  The dress sets the tone (Formal, Casual, rustic, vintage…) and guest list determines the appropriate venue.
