It is coming up to the one year anniversary of having shot my first destination wedding this month! Last year on Feb. 20th I shot Tyson and Lindsey’s Mexico destination wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico. I still feel so very blessed to have booked this wedding, for I had made it a business goal of mine to shoot a tropical destination wedding by my 5 year mark. Well, I did it in my 4th year as a professional wedding photographer and I am so very thankful and still giddy from the whole experience. There is an energy that is different than shooting a local wedding. I think if I could go back and re-do my own wedding, I would do a destination wedding. It really is an amazing time!
Why I think you should have a destination wedding
A few reasons I think destination weddings are amazing are: 1) You get to be with friends and family who chose to come for like 3-4 days! There is definitely more intimate connection between the couple and the guests because the time spent with them. They would pay volleyball on the beach together, hot tub together and have meals together besides just the wedding day. 2) You are already at your honeymoon location! You dont have to rush off the day after your wedding or in some cases wait to have a honeymoon. The romance doesnt end! Less stress and more quality time. 3) IT WARM + SUNNY!! If you live in MN like me, it is a dream to be in the perfect weather climate of Mexico! You get to have a relaxed ceremony outside on the beach as the waves crash against the shore line. Its dreamy. It really is.
I am really excited to continue growing my destination wedding portfolio this year and the years to come! It’s really fun for me to get away and shoot at a new exotic location and I love being there to support the couple as well. It is also great for couples to hire a photographer to come because you never know what you will get just going with a resort photographer, who in most cases has a harder time communicating with you because of language barrier.
So in honor of this 1 year anniversary, (and the bitter cold!) I am posting some personal photos from Mexico. My husband flew down with me to be my second shooter and he did great! It is a necessity to have a second person to watch and lug around camera equipment, and it it cheaper for the couple to have us share lodging. : ) I will warn you, there are alot of food photos! I guess I was really impressed with the food!
Oh, more food pics.
Here’s to hoping this post warms you up! Ok, lets close our eyes together now and dream of sunshine and sand between our toes… : )
