Every wedding photographer in Minneapolis, to around the world has a different style, and technique when it comes to editing wedding photos. There is really no right or wrong way to process images, but when you are looking to hire a wedding photographer editing style plays a huge part in your decision factor! The way a photographer edits their photos is specific to them and is kind of like an artist that paints a specific subject or concept and then they are known for that. As a client, it helps you know what you can expect your images to look like and keeps a consistent, predictable outcome for each wedding. As a photographer, it helps your business stay branded and be recognizable. For example, when you hear a song on the radio, and there is that melody line that comes in, (Call me Maybe!??) you know exactly what song it is before you even look down at the channel info in the car. It’s the same for your work and will help you form a true unique aspect and work towards your target client.
The most important thing to me as a wedding photographer is making my couple’s life as simple as possible. They have so much to think about while planning a wedding, I want them to be able to know what they are paying for and never be unsure, uneasy, or feeling like its a guessing game as to what they will be receiving as a final product.
I posted a few sample images below that show a few different edits I use for every wedding. This gives you an idea of just what you can expect from me. I would describe my style as clean, classic and naturally lit. I think about the future, and the fact that having clean true to color edits will be desirable 20 years from now when you want to remember your day exactly how it was. I also factor in that vintage edits are really popular and also fun! So I also always add a few of those (8-10) as a duplicate to the classic edits to better serve my clientele as a whole. Lastly, I throw in (8-10) B+W edits because they draw your eye to the subject or emotion in certain images, and I think they are an all time classic looking edit.
Wether you are a couple seeking to find the right photographer for you, or a wedding photographer yourself seeking to pin down your signature style, you can ask yourself these questions:
-What do I want from my photographer as a final product?
-What style best represents us as a couple?
-What is my target client?
-What is my style?
-What represents my brand?
-What serves my target client best?
