I just purchased a new lens and I am VERY excited to be able to use it with my couples and for weddings! I got the Sigma 35mm 1.4. So I thought I would share with you my thoughts about the lens and if you are wondering what the hoop-hollerin is about this lens, I’m hoping to give you an idea about the uses for it.
I shoot with a Nikon D700 body and have always purchased Nikkor (Nikon branded) lenses. But a friend of mine suggested the Sigma because they really liked it and it was slightly less expensive so I decided to try it out! I LOVE it! My favorite lens is my Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and I think it is still my favorite. The 50mm is so versatile and I like that I am able to use it through out the entire day at a wedding. The difference between the two is not much, but the 50mm gives a bit more of an editorial feel, which fits the style I like to shoot.
As you can see below, (image of the couple) it gives you a more personal feel and I can get really close to my subject while shooting. It makes for a great intimate moment. Its a wider lens than a 50, so it gives me the freedom to get a closer shot like below. I think it focuses really sharp also! Overall I probably wouldn’t use it for ALL my portraits, but I am thinking and hoping it will be beneficial for some different wedding party shots and wider shots on the dance floor while guests are getting their groove on!
Anyhow, I am really looking forward to using it this weekend at a wedding Im shooting! I will be posting again after using it and let you know what it worked best for and in what situations along with some photos. :- )
